The Derf cartoons are produced by Fred Armstrong and directed by Dave Puls.
Each episode represents countless hours of work from the artists at Animatus.
The bulk of animation is done using the traditional hand-drawn method. Drawings are inked and scanned into AXA, a digital paint program.
From there motion effects are added using Adobe After Effects, Boris Effects, and Macromedia Flash.
Many shots are created using CG programs like 3D Studio Max and Bryce. All video and audio editing is done in house using the Animatus nonlinear edit stations.
