Fresh Toones are written, performed, and animated by Dave Puls. A Fresh Toone is defined as any act of creation inspired by an attempt to connect oneself with the universe. Dave sees animation as a powerful way to express the ideas present in his songs. Dave had earned a B.F.A. in Oil Painting (Old Master Techniques) and was studying graphic design when an intense summer program at The Animation School in Rochester inspired him to move into the animation field. Since 1992, Dave has been the Creative Director at Animatus Studio. Dave provides animated elements, motion graphics and editing for most Animatus clients. For the locally produced documentary, When Football Was Bigger Than Life, he had a major role as video and sound editor. Dave wrote and directed the three "Derf the Viking" cartoons and is the creative force behind "Fresh Toones." These nine award winning shorts have been shown worldwide, from L.A. to Monte Carlo. Since 1994, Dave has been teaching animation in public schools and at The Animation Workshop at Animatus Studio. No matter what the students' age, he hopes to convey to them the power of presenting their ideas through the use of animation. The world of animation has allowed Dave to speak with a multitude of voices, using words, music, and graphic imagery. Dave has been a songwriter for over thirty years and has produced five albums of original songs. He was a guitarist and arranger for several country rock groups before deciding to focus his musical energies on producing his own CD’s. |
