Synopsis:
A new husband faces more than his own misgivings about family when he deals with dysfunctional in-laws on Thanksgiving, including a long-lost brother who sprouts leaves when he gets wet.

This first short film by Shrek director Vicky Jenson draws on loud family memories of classical music, creative cooking and the fine art of arguing. It was produced through the Visiting Artist Program at the Los Angeles Film School and the generous donation of time from all key creative crew and talent involved.

director Vicky Jenson

SHREK co-direcctor Vicky Jenson's career spans live action and animation. While storyboarding for such directors as Wayne Wang and John Hughes, she developed visual styles for Ralph Bakshi and John Kricfalusi on such groundbreaking animation as MIGHTY MOUSE and REN & STIMPY. After a stint as Production Designer on the budget horror film PLAYROOM, she returned to animation to art direct on the feature FERNGULLY: THE LAST RAINFOREST, then later, produce and direct for Universal Cartoons. Joining DreamWorks in 1996, she has been a production designer on THE ROAD TO EL DORADO, story artist on CHICKEN RUN and eventually co-director on SHREK. Vicky is currently directing the upcoming DreamWork's comedy SHARK TALE, starring Will Smith, Reneé Zellweger, Martin Scorsese, and Robert DeNiro. FAMILY TREE marks Vicky's live action directorial debut.

writer Scott Ingalls

Scott Ingalls began directing commercials in 1992, working both in LA and Munich, his clientele included corporate giants such as Nabisco, Pepsi, Subaru, Mazda. Scott received an AAS in film from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a BFA in animation from California Institute of the Arts where he has taught as visiting faculty. Scott also spent a brief time as an on-set, physical- effects technician, which led to his resourceful and cross-disciplinary approach to making commercials. Although writing is an integral part to directing, Family Tree is Scott's first narrative script to be produced.

Lisa Beroud has produced commercials all over the world, allowing her to enjoy hotel rooms in such exotic locations as Zimbabwe, Italy, Czech Republic, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the USA. Her clients include Klasky Csupo, Bedford Falls, and Rhythm & Hues. Most recently, Lisa has been a post producer at A52. Lisa's love of literature, and her interest in developing story, lead to her involvement in Family Tree, which she found more rewarding spiritually than monetarily!

director of photography Pieter Vermeer

Direct descendant of the Dutch painter, Pieter Vermeer was born in 1964 in the Netherlands and studied photography and film at the prestigious "School of Fine Arts" in Breda, Holland. Starting as a lighting director (in the European style), Pieter worked on a variety of feature films with such directors as Theo van Gogh and Peter Greenaway. After moving to London, he worked as director of photography in feature films, commercials and music videos. Pieter has shot worldwide from the European Continent to South America, Africa and Australia. Maintaining residences in both New York and Los Angeles Family Tree is his first theatrical release here in the United States.

Harland Williams - "Jake"

Actor, author and comedian Harland Williams, who made his film debut in fellow Canadian Jim Carrey's hit Dumb and Dumber, first gained attention as an obsessed hitchhiker opposite Ben Stiller in There's Something About Mary. He recently starred in Buena Vista's Sorority Boys following appearances in 20th Century Fox's Freddie Got Fingered starring Tom Green, Warner Bros.' The Whole Nine Yards with Bruce Willis, and the New Line Cinema comedy Dog Park opposite Janeane Garafalo. Williams, who starred in Rocket Man for Caravan Pictures/Walt Disney Pictures, other film credits include leading roles in Paramount Pictures' Superstar with Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell, Half Baked with colleague Dave Chappelle, and Fox's Down Periscope with Kelsey Grammer. No stranger to television, Williams starred opposite Geena Davis in ABC's "The Geena Davis Show", lent his voice to the UPN animated series, "Gary and Mike", as Mike and starred in the Tri-Star series "Simon" for the WB network. Throughout Williams continues to showcase his true love: stand-up comedy. He tours extensively, regularly appears on "Late Night with David Letterman", "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", is a regular guest at The Laugh Factory in Los Angeles and hosts Comedy Central's "Premium Blend". Williams has authored and illustrated a series of children's books featuring a huggable brontosaurus by named Lickety Split.

Talia Shire - "Patty"

Academy Award nominated actress Talia Shire is best known for her acclaimed roles in the Godfather and Rocky films. Her first Oscar nomination was for her performance as Connie Corleone, in Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather II. The second nomination was for her role as Adrian with Sylvester Stallone in Rocky. Talia has experience behind the camera as well, having directed her first film in 1994 entitled One Night Stand with Ally Sheedy, A. Martinez, and Frederic Forrest. Talia also worked uncredited behind the scenes with her late husband, producer Jack Schwartzman, on the Sean Connery Bond film Never Say Never Again. Following were starring roles in motion pictures built around a female lead, such as Old Boyfriends with John Belushi, and Keith Carradine and Windows, directed by Gordon Willis. Talia was born in New York and studied at the Yale School of Drama. She is the daughter of arranger-composer-conductor Carmine Coppola, sister of Francis Ford Coppola, and aunt to actor Nicholas Cage.

Ethan Phillips - "Dad"

Ethan Phillips' stage credits include My Favorite Year at Lincoln Center, Measure for Measure, at the New York Shakespeare Festival, Lips Together Teeth Apart at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, Only Kidding for the American Jewish Theatre, Modiglianni at the Astor Place Theatre. He has appeared in Los Angeles premieres of Side Man at the Pasadena Playhouse, The Dining Room at the Coronet Theatre, and Lips Together Teeth Apart at the Mark Taper Forum. Extensive regional theatre includes leading roles at San Diego's Globe Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Center Stage in Baltimore, the Boston Shakespeare Co., Actors' Theatre of Louisville, the Salt Lake Acting Co. and the McCarter Theatre. Films include the up-coming Bad Santa for the Coen brothers, Endsville, For Richer Or Poorer, Star Trek: First Contact, Jeffrey, Man Without a Face, Green Card, Lean On Me, and Glory. Television credits include guest-starring roles on NYPD Blue, Law And Order, Providence, and HBO's From The Earth To The Moon. He played 'Pete' on ABC's Benson for five seasons and the alien 'Neelix' on Star Trek: Voyager for seven seasons. A playwright as well, his work PENGUIN BLUES is published by Samuel French and has been produced over a hundred times in the United States and Canada. He received a Master of Fine Arts from Cornell University.
