Nancy Cartwright, Voice Talent
Animatus Studio and the High Falls Film Festival were pleased to welcome Nancy Cartwright to this year's program. Her work on The Simpsons, the longest running animated sitcom in history, is enjoyed by millions of fans each week. It was a real pleasure having Nancy in Rochester for the 2002 festival. On Saturday, November 2, Nancy gave a talk to an enthusiastic crowd at the Dryden Theater. She told stories of how she became one of the top voice talents in the business, and showed some behind the scenes clips from her work on The Simpsons. That evening, Animatus President Fred Armstrong presented Nancy with the Faith Hubley Web of Life award at the festival's closing night ceremony. On Sunday, Nancy signed copies of her book, My Life as a Ten-Year-Old Boy for fans at Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Pittsford. |

The 2002 Faith Hubley Web of Life award was presented to Nancy Cartwright, a woman who has brought joy to fans around the world through both her animated characters and her charitable endeavors. Her work with the World Literacy Crusade, promoting excellence in education, has taken her as far as the Neko Tech School in Ghana. She has brought happiness to terminally ill children who receive visits and phone calls from "Bart Simpson." By making a connection with the community in such a positive way while giving iconic performances in television and film, Nancy has demonstrated what it means to be a part of the "web of life." She understands the power art has to entertain and connect with an audience, and also the responsibility the artist has to follow through with that connection by helping to make the world a better place.

Nancy Cartwright Biography
Best known as the spiky-headed underachiever Bart Simpson, Emmy™ Award-winning voice actor Nancy Cartwright is also the unique voice behind Simpsons' characters Ralph Wiggum, Nelson Muntz, Todd Flanders and others. In addition to her work on The Simpsons, Nancy has continually expanded her acting arena, having taken on the voice of Chuckie in Nickelodeon's Rugrats, as well as voicing Rufus the Naked Mole Rat in Disney's new hit show Kim Possible. Nancy has also played many popular characters on such animated series as Richie Rich; Animaniacs; Pinky and The Brain; The Critic; God, The Devil and Bob; Mike, Lu & Og; as well as Chuck Jones' final work, Timber Wolf. While establishing herself as a voice professional, Nancy simultaneously began her on-camera career, playing the lead in the TV movie Marian Rose White and creating other memorable roles in Fame; Empty Nest; Cheers; The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; Twilight Zone-The Movie; and Godzilla. In addition to the Emmy award for Outstanding voice-over performance as Bart Simpson, Nancy has received several industry honors, including the prestigious animation award "The Annie," and a "DramaLogue Award" for her one-woman play, In Search of Fellini. Never one to sit in the wings, Nancy followed up her stage success by forming SportBlast, which develops and produces animation for film, television and the internet. Partnered with AOL/Time-Warner and Turner Interactive, Nancy's debut in development, The Kellys, can be seen on www.nascar.com. Nancy is the voice of Chip in this animated series about a stock car racing family. Nancy enjoys being very active as a volunteer in the community, supporting
many non-profit organizations which focus on helping children: Famous Fone Friends
allows her to telephone terminally ill children as Bart and other favorite characters;
the Make-A-Wish Foundation also utilizes Nancy's talents to fulfill the wishes of
terminally ill youngsters; The Way to Happiness Foundation provides precepts for
children to help them lead cooperative and productive lives; the World Literacy
Crusade, a tutorial program, brings education to places it is needed most; and
Nancy always makes herself available to speak out publicly against drug abuse and
about the importance of education.
Nancy is a member of Women in Film and ASIFA - The International Animation Society - and she sits on the board of Women in Animation and The Chouinard Foundation, a non-profit organization that preserves the memory and artistic integrity of Nelbert Chouinard, a lifelong ally of Walt Disney. In her spare time, Nancy speaks at college campuses throughout the world - from UCLA to Oxford - answering questions about her career and encouraging students to pursue their dreams. Life as a Ten-Year-Old Boy." The behind-the-scenes look at The Simpsons
