Animation Program 2003
Vicky Jenson, Producer/Director

Animatus Studio and the High Falls Film Festival were pleased to welcome Vicky Jenson to the 2003 program. Her presence made a great festival even better. A special event at the Little Theatre highlighted her work. It was well attended and a good time was had by all. She also found time to meet with animation students at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

From 'Stimpy' to 'Shrek':
Animation Through Vicky Jenson's Lens

The director of SHREK, one of the most successful animated feature films of all time, discusses her years as an art director and/or production designer on projects including FERNGULLY, THE ROAD TO EL DORADO, and her upcoming Dreamworks film, SHARK TALE, as well as her work with Ralph Bakshi and John Kricfalusi on the visual style development for Mighty Mouse and Ren & Stimpy. Jenson will show clips of her work, as well as FAMILY TREE, a 36-minute live action film she directed, starring Harlan Williams, Talia Shire and Ethan Phillips.

Ferngully

Vicky Jenson's career spans art direction and story, live action, and animation. While storyboarding for such directors as Wayne Wang and John Hughes, she developed visual styles for Ralph Bakshi and John Kricfalusi on the groundbreaking animated series Mighty Mouse and Ren & Stimpy. Vicky landed her first major role in live action as production designer on the low budget horror film Playroom, shot in Yugoslavia. After returning to animation to art direct on the feature Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, Vicky joined Universal Cartoons, working as a director, art director and producer. Vicky joined DreamWorks in 1996, where she served as production designer on The Road to El Dorado, story artist on Chicken Run and eventually co-director on Shrek. Vicky is currently directing the upcoming DreamWorks comedy Shark Tale, starring Will Smith, Renee Zellweger, Martin Scorsese, and Robert DeNiro. The short film Family Tree (screening at this year's High Falls Fest) is Vicky's live action directorial debut.

Synopsis: Inspired by Ovid's tale of Baucis and Philemon, "Family Tree" revolves around a guy facing bickering in-laws on Thanksgiving including one long-lost brother who's finally come home - but witha problem - he sprouts leaves when he gets wet.
